Anterior Eye Examination

Anterior eye examination is a comprehensive evaluation of the front portion of the eye, including the cornea, iris, lens, and conjunctiva.

Here at KJ, we are equipped with a machine called the Slit Lamp, that allows us to look at the front part of your eyes in detail. We detect eye conditions like cataracts, dry eyes and conjunctivitis by scanning through the different structures in your eyes.

Why is an Anterior Eye Examination Important?

An anterior eye examination is able to reveal a wide range of eye problems, including:

  1. Cataracts: This is a clouding of the lens in the eye that can cause vision loss. An anterior eye examination can detect cataracts in their early stages and provide prompt management accordingly.
  2. Glaucoma: This is a group of diseases that cause progressive damage to the optic nerve, leading to vision loss and blindness. Anterior eye examinations can reveal whether the anterior chamber angles are open or closed, which can be a sign of glaucoma.
  3. Conjunctivitis: Also known as pink eye, it includes symptoms like redness, itching, burning, tearing, and discharge from the eye.
  4. Dry Eye Syndrome: Through anterior eye examinations, we are able to detect if there is enough tears regulated to hydrate the cornea. Symptoms includes redness, tearing, excessive blinking and sometimes burning or pain if it is too severe!
