Eye Assessment for Contact Lens Wear

An optometrist will conduct an eye assessment which includes the following:

  1. Visual Acuity Test: A test to measure the sharpness of vision in each eye.
  2. Refraction Test: A test to determine the prescription needed for your contact lenses.
  3. Keratometry: A test to measure corneal curvature, using a keratometer. Corneal curvature is essential to determine the correct base curve, especially for conventional/customised contact lenses, to ensure optimal fit.
  4. Slit-Lamp Examination: A test to examine the front of the eye, including the eyelids, lashes, conjunctiva, cornea, iris, and lens to ensure the eyes are healthy and free of infections or abnormalities that are contraindicators for contact lens wear.

These tests will help the eye care professional determine if the individual is a good candidate for contact lenses and to recommend the most appropriate type and fit of contact lenses. They will also help monitor the health of the eyes over time and make necessary adjustments to the prescription, fit, or lens type if needed.
